Hey there!! My name is Katie Patrick and I am your typical hot mess living, iced coffee drinking, Taylor Swift singing, messy bun wearing mom, wife, and small business owner!!
I was born right here in Waco (shout out to all my fellow babies born at the old Hillcrest Hospital) and spent my school aged years as a Midway Panther until I graduated from high school. I moved away to attend college and graduate school and after living in different places around the country decided it was time to return to Texas. I am so excited to raise my children in the same town where I grew up and have them fall in love with some of the same activities I loved in my youth!
Growing up, small business was an essential part of my day to day life. I learned first hand how important it was to support small businesses in your local community and how crucial small businesses are to the success of a community overall. Did you know, a 2018 study commissioned by American Express found that an average two-thirds of every dollar (67 cents) spent at small businesses in the U.S. stays in the local community compared to 41% when shopping at large corporations?? Additionally, SCORE found that small businesses donate 250% more than larger businesses to local nonprofits and community causes.
When I was thinking about opening my own business, I knew I wanted it to be rooted within the community and I am so excited Rhea Lana's is a business that is 100% invested into the local community it serves! Our consignors are able to make extra money for their families, our shoppers are able to stretch their money further by purchasing items at a fraction of the retail cost, and our local foster families are able to obtain high quality children's items for free to help them better serve children placed within their homes!
I have been involved with Rhea Lana's for several years. I started my journey as a shopper when I was pregnant with my daughter. I then started consigning and eventually started working the events.
Rhea Lana's literally saved my life! After my son was born in November 2020, I was suffering from postpartum depression and felt very alone. I was able to join other moms within a community that made me feel welcome and created life long friendships that I will carry with me forever! Reflecting back on this, I knew I was being called to serve others by bringing this community to the Waco area and welcome others in the same way I was welcomed into the Rhea Lana's community.
